I founded it in January of 2000- a new school for a new millenium-
because I realized that most language schools in Prague are not really
schools at all. They are businesses which sell language courses. Their
managers have very little idea what is actually happening in the classrooms,
they hire teachers with little regard for their abilities, and they
have no consistent curriculum or method for tracking a student's progress.
Watson's School of English changes all that. As the owner, and primary
teacher, I am acutely aware of, and responsible for, your progress in
the English language.
I have over 5 years of experience teaching English, mostly in Prague
but also in Bangkok, Thailand. I have taught pre-schoolers and retirees,
business people and students, artists and scientists, complete beginners
and those whose English is advanced enough that they could almost pass
for native speakers themselves. Of course, I am still a long way from
being the perfect teacher, but I'm improving all the time.
When I hire new teachers, I look specifically for people who speak
clearly and communicate well. Also, I insist that all of our teachers
at least be learning Czech. Teachers who speak only English have no
idea of the difficulties in learning a foreign language, and cannot
relate to the confusion the student is facing.
If you are a complete beginner who would feel more comfortable with
an English teacher whose native language is Czech, we can arrange that,
too.
Watson's School of English uses a step-by-step method (see Our Teaching
Method) to insure that, even if you change teachers, you will remain
firmly on the path to perfection in English.
So, welcome to Watson's School of English! I hope to see you in class.
